Welcome back to online stepping stones the provider of simple affordable hosting solutions. Today I am going to talk about writers block; every creative person suffers from writers block at some time or another and it’s very easy to become stuck but extremely hard to find your motivation to get unstuck again. I shall now go though a number of ways to counteract writers block.
1. Be prepared for other ideas to try and block you. I find that when working on a new website design or website article my mind strays into uncharted areas. Suddenly I am thinking about that spot of painting downstairs that I need to complete or making that important phone call to my mother, (really need to do that soon before she starts thinks something has happened to me). When these ideas come along I don’t ignore them I automatically write them down on my to-do list and care on with what I am meant to be doing. This way it doesn’t seam to affect you as much as trying to block them out altogether.
2. The next tip is to write your ideas down without thinking about how they will join, this method effectively makes you start in a completely different position then you normally do. The end product will always be the same but they way you accumulate the ideas means that it’s a little like doing a little jigsaw. It can take a bit more time but if it unblocks the creative juices then all’s good.
3. Don’t sit on the computer looking at a blank screen. My personal favourite thing to get the mind working is chucking a rugby ball about and making bullet point notes. Now everyone is different but I am sure that you have some activity that is not mentally changing that you enjoy doing, meaning that your hands are doing one thing but your mind is working on the solution to your website design problem.
4. Time management skills. This point is simple, when you are designing a website or writing an article about website design then you need to make sure that you leave enough time for the complete process. There is nothing else to say, you know how long it takes for things to be completed so make sure that you leave enough time.
5. Ask for help. If you are lucky enough to have access to individuals that have experience in the task that you are trying to complete then it’s probably best to try and tap them for some information. Don’t be the typical bloke you see driving around the same roundabout for about 20 minutes because they are to proud to ask for directions. Also online forums have an abundance of information that can be useful but remember that some so called experts have very little knowledge in certain subjects, the way I see it is, if I read 3 or 4 articles on a website related subject and everyone is coming to the same conclusion then that automatically makes that advice credible and worth trying.
6. Finally if you are really stuck and nothing is working then just get up and start to do something you enjoy. Don’t think about the problem and come back to it later, the saying “sleep on it” really does work.
Once again that’s all from me. If you enjoyed this article and have a few moments then why don’t you have a look at a few of the services we provide?
