I was quite impressed with their offering and decided to go ahead with the purchase, now the hosting companies always try to up sell and sometimes I think they are far too aggressive but I was pleasantly surprised with the clear and concise upgrades that this hosting company was offering; they didn’t force it down my throat instead they told me the benefits in clear and concise bullet points. They provided me with a huge amount of great upgrades which made me start wondering if the original hosting package was worth the money I was willing to pay in the first place.
The simple truth is that at the moment UK hosting companies are flooding the market with affordable hosting solutions. It’s very easy to pick up a good deal from your website hosting provider but I would always recommend caution when the deal becomes too good to be true, there is a big difference between affordable website hosting and cheap website hosting.
Normally affordable website hosting consists of a shared web server with plenty of bandwidth, uptime SLA’s, space, support options and upgrade possibilities. It’s always got its downside but you have to remember that you’re not paying anything near the price of a virtual or dedicated server which would be the next steps up. Now cheap hosting on the other hand is dangerous, their terms and conditions can be very long winded in order to hide a collection of sins and well worded unprofessionalism but there offering will look very similar to the affordable hosting solution offering.
Now maybe I am being a little harsh on the hosting companies but there is nothing worse than getting a hosting company that punches well below its weight. One of my favourite tricks to test my potential hosting partner is to contact their support team before the service is purchased. Get their support team to answer a very simple question related to the service they are providing and see how long it takes them to get back to you. This is such a simple test but it can really tell you a lot about the professional of the company in question, the quicker and more accurate answers normally come from the more reliable hosting provider.
